Academy
Mikro Primary has a network of 38 computers in our Information Centre. Here we work hard on projects, assignments, and homework! A scanner and two printers are available for learners to use. We also have our own unique Intranet where information relevant to the learners’ schoolwork is uploaded. In addition to academic material, it also features information about interesting events happening in our world.
Each class has the opportunity to visit the centre once a week to receive instruction. During these sessions, they are transported into a world of technology—where a visit to a castle or even outer space is just a mouse click away!
Our Grade 6 and 7 learners each have a Microsoft Office 365 license, giving them access to Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, SharePoint, and many other tools.
Mikro Primary has a well-equipped book section with a wide range of reference materials, subject-related literature, and fiction in both Afrikaans and English. Learners use it to find information for assignments and to read for enjoyment.
A daily copy of Die Burger newspaper is available so learners can stay informed about current events. A photocopier is also available for learners to make copies from books for their assignments.
The Information Centre was open for borrowing and using books during first and second breaks. It was also open Monday to Thursday afternoons until 15:30.
The media team consisted of three educators—one serving full-time—and a group of media prefects who assisted with operations.
Due to COVID-19 protocols, book borrowing no longer takes place after school in the Information Centre but rather during class time.
Every year, a Book Week is held. During this event, book sales take place and a children’s author visits the school.
Authors who have visited our school include:
Fanie Viljoen, Jaco Jacobs, Wendy Maartens, Carina Diedericks-Hugo, Theresa van Baalen, Janie Oosthuizen, and Mariana Brandt.
