Growing with Talent

Learners at Mikro Primary School participate annually in the Tygerberg and Stellenbosch Eisteddfods, entering a variety of sections that showcase their diverse abilities.

Young singers are given the opportunity to shine with their nightingale voices, performing both prescribed pieces and songs of their own choice. Bookworms demonstrate their reading skills during impromptu reading sessions, while learners with a flair for creative writing and poetry—our “golden quill” students—showcase their talents in both Afrikaans and English First Language categories. Those with exceptional handwriting also have the chance to serve as Mikro’s “export products.”

Drama learners bring their creativity to life through the recitation of poems and prose, and oratory learners captivate audiences with both prepared and impromptu speeches. Meanwhile, diligent piano students display their musical talents across various sections, and art learners—who refine their skills behind the scenes—have the opportunity to present their artwork to the public.

Each learner receives individual coaching to help them reach their maximum potential. The annual Eisteddfod provides an ideal platform for students to excel in cultural pursuits, ensuring that their talents are nurtured and celebrated rather than hidden away. Participation in these competitions encourages growth, builds self-confidence, and instills a lifelong love for the arts. With many schools and organizations taking part, the Eistedfod offers a remarkable stage for young artists to shine.

Every three years, Mikro hosts its own cultural festival, the “Jongtongfees”, where Eisteddfod learners become part of a week-long celebration of culture. Packed with performances and attended by the wider community, this festival allows Mikro to proudly showcase the school’s artistic “export products” and highlight the incredible talents of its learners.
